Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty


body1A tummy tuck surgery, also known as an abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal region. In some cases, it can also repair weakened or separated muscles usually caused my pregnancy. A protruding abdomen or loose and sagging skin can also be attributed to aging, heredity, and significant fluctuations in weight. A tummy tuck is not a substitution for weight loss.

The ideal candidate for a tummy tuck is physically healthy, a non-smoker, not planning any future pregnancies, maintaining a stable weight, and is bothered by the appearance of their abdominal area.

The Procedure

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision below the belly button and above the pubic hairline. The length will be determined by the amount of excess skin. Once the skin is lifted, repairs can be made to the underlying muscles. A second incision around the naval may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen. Once the excess skin is removed, the incision is sutured.

The Results

Results may be initially obscured by swelling. After one to two weeks, you will begin to see your results. Your abdomen will be flatter, smoother, and in proportion with your body. The scar can take several months up to a year to fade. It's important to maintain a stable weight in order to maintain your results.
