Rhinoplasty - Nose Reshaping

faceRhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the shape of the nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose such as a deviated septum. Dr. Khan specializes in rhinoplasty (specifically ethnic rhinoplasty of the Persian or Iranian face). Rhinoplasty can change the size of the nose in relation with the face, the width of the nose at the bridge, bumps in the bridge of the nose, the shape of the nasal tip, the shape of the nostrils, and improve nasal symmetry.

The ideal candidate for rhinoplasty is someone that is physically healthy, a non-smoker, has a fully developed face, and is unhappy with the size of shape of their nose. The ultimate goal is to increase facial balance and correct proportion.

The Procedure

Incisions can be hidden inside the nose or made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils. Through these incisions, the skin is gently lifted so that the surgeon has access to the nasal bones and cartilage and can reshape the nose. The size of the nose can be reduced by removing bone or cartilage. Sometimes surgery may require the addition of cartilage grafts. Once the surgeon has achieved the desired shape, the skin is brought back down into place and the incisions are closed.

The Results

A splint and gauze packing is used to support the nose as it heals. Swelling will subside within a few weeks. It can take up to a year for the shape of the nose to reach its final outcome. During this time, you may notice gradual changes. Results are permanent aside from natural changes that occur from aging. A healthy lifestyle and life-long sun protection will extend your desired results.
