Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a safe and virtually painless procedure that can dramatically reduce hair growth with long lasting results. It works by using highly concentrated light to target hair follicles without harming the surrounding area. The laser heats up the hair follicle which inhibits future growth. Common treatment areas include the legs, arms, bikini area, underarms, and upper lip.
Preparation
Because waxing and plucking temporarily removes the hair's roots, you should not pluck or wax your hair for at least six weeks before your treatment. You should also limit your sun exposure before and after laser hair removal because it will make your treatment less effective.
The Procedure
It is common to treat a small area to test your reaction to the laser before undergoing the full treatment. Before your treatment, your hair may be trimmed. Then the licensed medical professional or esthetician will press a hand-held laser device to your skin. A cooling gel might be used to protect your skin during the procedure. When the laser is activated, the intense heat from the laser beam damages the hair follicles. Some discomfort may be possible but some compare it to the snap of a rubber band. The amount of time for the procedure will depend on the area being treated.
Results
You may notice some redness or swelling immediately after the procedure but this usually subsides in a few hours. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure after treatment. Over the next month, the treated hair will fall out. For best results, we recommend six treatments to catch the hair at its different growth cycles. Periodic maintenance may be required.
