Neck Lift: Restore Your Jawline

Neck Lift: Restore Your Jawline

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, restores the contours of the jawline for a more youthful appearance. Visible signs of aging include excess fat and skin in the lower face, excess fatty deposits under the chin, loose neck skin, and muscle banding in the neck. This can be caused by a variety of factors including age, heredity, gravity, and environmental conditions.

A neck lift is a great solution for people that are not ready for a full face lift but are still looking for dramatic results. The ideal candidate for a neck lift is healthy, does not smoke, and are unhappy with the appearance of their neck or jawline. A neck lift can be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift, fat transfer, or eyelid surgery.

During the neck lift procedure, an incision begins in the hairline at the sideburn and continues down and around the ear and ends at the bottom of the hair. The surgeon may remove or redistribute excess fat from the jowls and neck. The platysma muscle is often tightened. Finally, the skin is redraped over the new contours and excess skin is removed. Sometimes another incision underneath the chin is required to perform liposuction or repair muscle. The incision is closed with sutures or skin adhesives. For less dramatic results, only a small incision around the ear may be necessary.

Results will be visible after the initial swelling and bruising subsides. However, it can take several weeks to months to see the final results. Although results are permanent, a neck lift cannot stop the aging process. Incision lines will fade over time. A commitment to a healthy lifestyle and sun protection will help extend your rejuvenated appearance.
