Rhinoplasty: The Nose Reshaping Surgery

Rhinoplasty: The Nose Reshaping Surgery

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping, is surgery to change the shape of the nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects such as a deviated septum. Rhinoplasty can make a nose smaller, change the width, correct bumps, and improve symmetry. Dr. Khan of Aesthetics International USA specializes in ethnic rhinoplasty (specifically with the Iranian and Persian face).

During the Surgery

During the surgery, the surgeon will make small incisions inside the nose so that no scars will be seen after the healing process. Depending on the desired end result, some bone or cartilage may be removed. In some cases, cartilage may be added to the nose using cartilage from the septum or other parts of the body. After the surgery, a splint will support the new shape of the nose during healing.

After the Surgery

After rhinoplasty, you can expect swelling and bruising to occur. Cold compresses can help reduce swelling and pain. Your surgeon will most likely prescribe pain medicine during this time. It can take up to 2 weeks before the swelling goes away.
